Stefany Gurgel, Mechatronics Instructor

Hello, my name is Stefany Gurgel and I am a high school engineering teacher.

I have been using MecLab since the start of my teaching career in 2017 and it is by far one of my favorite pieces of equipment to incorporate in my classroom. My students are very engaged and motivated when learning mechatronics using the MecLab because they get to learn about the hardware connection and also how to program it using the FluidSIM software. It exposes students to both hardware and software troubleshooting and students can really get to explore what they like. Meclab allows for student centered learning, where students learn by doing and by collaborating with their peers. In addition, the MecLab equipment is composed of real industrial parts which makes it very durable and allows students to work with components that they will actually be handling in the real world, as opposed to learning with toy-like samples.  Furthermore, it is used in SkillsUSA competitions, which my students really enjoy participating in and there is a stackable industry credential for Introduction to Mechatronics from the National Coalition of certification that students can obtain as well. I absolutely love the MecLab learning system and believe all high schools should have them in their STEM and CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses.
